Pidgin
Pidgin not familiar to you? If you are familiar with instant messaging, then maybe you have heard of the multi-protocol instant messaging client called Gaim. Gaim has been renamed Pidgin and is the IM client you can use for Windows, MacOS X, BSD, and Linux. At the same time, Pidgin is compatible with AIM, the Oscar Protocol of ICQ, and networks like Zephyr, GroupWise Messenger, SILC, Gadu-Gadu, Jabber, IRC, Yahoo!, and MSN Messenger.
If you have Pidgin, you can tap into multiple accounts using different IM networks at the same time. With this feature, you are allowed to use different systems like Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, or an IRC channel simultaneously.
Many features of various compatible networks can be supported by Pidgin. Examples of such features are: MSN window closing notification, typing notification, away messages, and file transfer. Pidgin itself has certain desirable features such as the Buddy Pounces feature and the plugins.
